Varsity Boys Basketball Drops Heartbreaking Opener

Game Date
Nov 30, 2018
Score
INDIANS: 60
HOMER HIGH SCHOOL: 61

Tecumseh's varsity boys basketball team opened up it's season at Homer last Friday night.  After a hot-shooting and strong defensive first quarter and an early 16-point lead, Homer slowly got back into the game at the foul line thanks to the Indians' 20 team fouls.  After some late Tecumseh miscues, the Trojans eventually hit a 3 with 11 seconds left to take a one-point lead.  Tecumseh settled for a contested step-back 3 at the buzzer and lost by the score of 60-61.

"We gave one away.  We couldn't have played better early on, but foul trouble caught up with us, we had timely turnovers, we let their main scorer get to the middle too often and we also lost their shooters late.  Winning is hard.  Even though there were a ton of positives, we need to play a much smarter brand of basketball to be able to win.  Our margin of error is very small.  These are great kids who are working hard, but we have very little experience.  We're going to have to learn and mature very quickly with the schedule we have," commented Coach Ruhl.

Statistically for Tecumseh were Macguire Hawley with 24 points on 5/10 from 3; Colin Brazil with 10 points; Cormac Phelan with 8 points and 4 assists; JJ Arbini with 7 points; Ryan Clary with 6 points and 6 rebounds; Michael Rine with 3 points and 9 rebounds; Landon Glover with 2 points and 5 rebounds; and Joe Kane with 2 points.

Tecumseh hopes to learn from this tough loss as they travel to Milan Friday night (8pm).
