For Tecumseh, it was all about Christmas Break. Sitting at 0-5, the Indians knew that they could easily have been 3-2 if they would have closed out games in which they held late leads. After a productive Break with focused practice time, scrimmage opportunities and team-bonding outings, Tecumseh was able to defeat the Royals from Blissfield in a double-OT thriller on Friday night.
"We needed this one. I feel like the kids earned it. We practiced 8 out of the 9 days after Christmas. We invested quality time. We bonded. We learned. We swallowed egos. It was fun to see them come together and it translated into a much needed win!" commented Coach Mike Ruhl.
Facing four double-digit deficits throughout the game, Tecumseh began to string together some defensive stops and got hot from the perimeter to push OT. In the 2nd OT, the Indians sealed the win with clutch free throw shooting.
"Very proud. We grew up a lot over Break and showed it tonight. We refused to lose," added Ruhl.
Statistically for Tecumseh were Cormac Phelan with 17 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds and 4 assists; Alex Lawson with 15 points and 4 assists; JJ Arbini (4 assists) and Michael Rine (8 rebounds) with 11 points each; Colin Brazil with 9 points and 1 charge taken; and Ryan Clary (2 charges taken and 3 assists) and Macguire Hawley with 8 points each.
Tecumseh travels to Lincoln Tuesday and hosts Jackson Friday night.
