Boys Varsity Wrestling vs. Roosevelt HS School

Game Date
Jan 4, 2020

Saturday January 4th Tecumseh Wrestling traveled to Wyandotte for a very tough and competitive Wyandotte Roosevelt Invitational.  It was a large field of traditionally great wrestling programs and I was a bit concerned that it may be too much too soon for our younger wrestlers.  However, we ended up taking 4th place out of 19 teams, and we could not have been happier!  It’s a long and early bus ride, and I was absolutely concerned about putting a young team that is in a rebuild, in a situation to be overpowered and risk losing some confidence.  But after the first two rounds of wrestling these kids took care of any worry I had entering this event.  While many are still young and making mistakes, their passion to compete is infectious.  I have to give a great deal of credit to our seniors who are becoming great leaders, and setting such a great example of persistence.  I believe right now, the seniors we have in our line-up are bringing back a tradition of toughness and hard work in both the practice room, and in competition.  Lead by Victor Coscarelli, Lucas Petty, Nick Tincher, Olen Boatright, and Byron Tate.  These guys are veterans of the program, and they are leading by example.  They are committed, and are certainly respected by the team and the coaching staff.   Nine of our fourteen wrestlers entered placed and earned medals in this event, and two were freshmen, one was a sophomore, and another, Deandre Blayer is a senior and only a first year wrestler.  Deandre is a very strong and athletic kid, he lacks some wrestling experience, but his gifted ability makes him dangerous.  He continues to get better.  Placing in this tournament were seniors Victor Coscarelli 135, Lucas Petty 140, Nick Tincher 145, Olen Boatright 152, Deandre Blayer 171, Byron Tate 215, sophomore Brandon Rau 160, and freshmen Benny Solis 103, and Josh Harkness 112.
